ABOUT

Casebook on Data Protection is a collection of 159 decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECTHR) and the Court of Justice of European Union (CJEU) on data protection.

 

The facts and decisions in the cases are summarised to the extent that they relate to the field of data protection and/or privacy featuring the relevant portions of the judgments with respect to issues of data protection and privacy.

 

The book is divided into 14 chapters on: Introduction; Definitions; Relationship with other rights; Principles of Data Protection; Exceptions and Derogation; Employment Data; Sensitive Data; Transfer of Data to a Foreign Country; Liability of Data Controllers; Data Subject’s Rights; Data Breach; Remedies; Data Property Rights and Supervisory Authority.

 

It will be virtually presented on Thursday June 4, 2020.

 

The event will be moderated by a data protection academic, Dr. Adekemi Omotubora of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, while the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, SAN and Dr. Bostjan Makarovic, UK-based tech lawyer/privacy practitioner will both review the book.

 

Prof. Nani Jansen Reventlow, a director, Digital Freedom Fund will speak on “The intersection of digital rights and data protection” while Dr. Tobias Hollwarth, the managing director of International Network of Privacy Law Professionals, Austria and Prof. Paolo Balboni (Professor of Privacy and Cybersecurity) will speak on “Cross border practice opportunities for privacy/data protection practitioners”
